The Resume Trap
Hello everyone, have you ever submitted a resume to an employer but never received a call? First, ask yourself has your resume been updated? Second, did you emphasize key elements that can attract an employer? Third, did you answer the four w's (e.g. who, what, when, where and how)? If you answered no to these questions then welcome to the resume trap!
As a perspective candidate you should understand that the resume is a business card which leaves a lasting impression. Take warning, employers will disregard your resume if it isn't attractive. So, what needs to be done to become an attractive employee?
First as previously mentioned write any current skills obtained or trainings. Also be sure to evaluate similar positions and compare job descriptions. This will provide a measuring stick and allow you to equate your performance with others performing the exact position.
Second grasp an understanding of key words and technology in the field and incorporate the language into your resume. Please, please become proficient with resources in your field of expertise. If you don't know then join affiliations or clubs in your field that can provide further insight. Also connect with other professionals in the field and become a sponge! I'm not kidding, the more you interact with professionals, the more proficient you become in the language and the field.
Last point, know the four w's. Many people fail at providing detail job and employment descriptions. If you were involved in a car accident, you would give the officer taking the report a detailed description so this is no different. This point becomes redundant and self explanatory therefore the finals words will be go get that job!
Comments
Hi there, nice site with good info. I really like coming back here often. There's only one thing that annoys me and that is the misfunctioning of comment posting. I usually get to 500 error page, and have to do the post twice.
